The Colorado Yule Marble Quarry

< Back Home

Welcome to The Colorado Yule Marble Quarry located in Marble, Colorado, USA. This historic quarry has been in existence for over 100 years. Located in the heart of America, it has produced the marble for the national treasures that are dear to the hearts of Americans: The Lincoln Memorial, The Tomb of The Unknowns Monument and the headstones of our nations fallen heroes at Arlington National Cemetery; making the quarry a national treasure, as well. Yule marble has become state and federal buildings, memorials, presidential statues, and works of art in the USA; and now, since the quarry reopened in 1990, it is being used throughout the world. The Final Tour of the quarry, given by senior quarry employee and expert Gary Bascom in 2008 exclusively for this DVD and covering the entire quarry. Tours of the quarry are no longer possible due to old hazards and new insurance requirements making this DVD the only way to ever see this historic quarry. The Working Quarry, narrated by quarry employee Bob Collier, shows how the men, women, and machines extract the marble from the mountain and bring it down the hill. Historian Oscar McCollum, Jr., narrates The History of The Old Marble Finishing Mill, adding firsthand insight he gained during a visit to the working quarry and mill in 1941. Photographer for The Tomb Restoration Project at the quarry, I narrate the search for the replacement die block for the Tomb of The Unknowns in Arlington, VA. The current Tomb Monument is damaged beyond repair and this exclusive footage shows the complete three year search for the replacement.
